I'm Sachin Sharma, the guy behind Life On Trails.

In 2026, after years of acquiring the skills I needed, I set out on the longest walk of my life so far.

More than 1100+ km, 35+ Passes, Highest Pat at 5900 meters.

I started from Dharchula, Uttarakhand and hiked all the way to Leh, Ladakh – solo and self-supported. I crossed uninhabited valleys, glacier-fed rivers, abandoned villages, and walked for days without seeing a single human soul.

There were narrow trails on steep slopes, sharp ridges, glacier crossings, and encounters with wildlife. There were days when my gear was my only emergency contact.

I am the first Indian to have documented a solo traverse of the Indian Western Himalayas on this route – from Dharchula to Leh.

But I’m not just a hiker.

I am a certified mountaineer – I completed my Basic Mountaineering Course from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. After that I got my P1, P2 Paragliding Certificate from a Bir Billing Paragliding Association affiliated institute.

I love to run – I’m currently working on my 5km timing, my personal best is 23 minutes 38 seconds.

Before all this, I was a Network Engineer in the corporate world. I left that life to follow my passion for adventure sports.

How did it all start?

It started with a simple, curious question: What does it feel like to be truly alone in the wilderness?

To walk alone in a forest, to make your own decisions, to sleep alone under a sky full of stars, to find a trail and wonder – where will this take me?

I am not a fan of hiking where you get all the comforts – where someone else carries your load, your tent is already pitched when you reach camp, and your food is ready. All you have to do is walk from point A to point B. I like it raw.

I like pitching my tent wherever I feel like in the wilderness. Improvising. Crossing rivers. Exploring new trails. Being fully aware of the risk you are taking, and still choosing to do it. I believe that’s what increases your threshold for taking risks in life.

Why I Started Life On Trails?

The idea came to me while I was on the trail itself. I saw only international hikers in the valleys of Ladakh. And they were amazed to see a solo Indian hiker there. That made me sad.

Why don’t Indian hikers come and see the beauty of these valleys?

Hiking is still not developed in India as a culture. I want to change that. My aim is to make the “Indian Western Himalayas Trail” as famous as the Pacific Crest Trail or the Annapurna Circuit and other Famous Trails all over the world.

I want Indian hikers to first know that these trails exist in our own Himalayas. Then, I want them to hike them with proper planning, confidence, and independence.

I am creating this community to share my knowledge with the fellow hikers and Inspire as many people as i can to walk in the nature with confidence and responsibly. Aim is to explore the old routes and untouched places in the indian himalayas. You can check out the blogs section about the routes i have explored in the Indian Himalayas.
