Badiyakot is connected via the road. Every day in the morning villagers leave for Town and come back in the evening. This is the another section of Trans Uttarakhand Traverse [ here ] after Khaljuni to Badiyakot [ here ].

The GPX file for all the section can be downloaded from Trans Uttarakhand Traverse Blog.

I was offered dinner and a stay for night by one of the local villager. I was served Chapati with Sabzi and Matha (Lassi or Butter Milk) in the dinner. After finishing my dinner, i was given a separate room to sleep. I had a good night sleep, early morning the guy woke me up around 5 am.

As i shared my next destination with him, he suggested that there is a road now till Bhararkhandi – a small hamlet below the Pass and also the last village of Kumaon region. So one of his friend is a taxi driver and was going to Bhararkhandi to get villagers and drop them to town for their work. This is his everyday routine. Coming back to waking up, I woke up in a hurry, as he was leaving already. I didn’t even washed my face, i only had tea and pick up my bagpack and ran toward the road.

Fortunately, he was waiting. In about 40 minutes, I reached Bhararkhandi hamlet. I was hoping that i would find a dhaba there but there is none. There is one small shop, from there i bought biscuits and choclate. One old age Aunty offered me tea, which i needed badly as i had not ate breakfast.

After having tea and biscuits, started moving. Trail is pretty much good till upper Bhararkhandi. Then from there for about a km you have to climb a steep ridge and trail is not that visible. Afterwards you can see the trail, although made up of loose rocks till you reach Talwara Shepherds Camp.

I could see lot of Shepherds camp, which are alive all season except winter due to snow fall. I was too hungry so took a break, drank lot of water and made pasta from emergency ration.

From the Campsite, there is a steep 1 km climb till pass. Once you cross the pass there is 2 km section which takes you to the most isolated valley. I would say as it was my first time having such experience of wilderness. I felt too lonely at that place. Where ever i could see there was nothing except rocky mountains, valley going downwards, peaks.

After covering some 1.5 km i reached a ridge where there was a place filled with different colours of flower. Which changed my mood from lonely to happy. I sat there for like 20 minutes just to enjoy them. From there i walked on a slope and met first shepherd with his sheeps. Now the trails is pretty much straight till Dulam, which is also a campsite of Shepherds.

From there you will have your Jio and Airtel Network and you hike down till Himni. In Garhwal region you will start having Jio/Airtel network almost in every village except one or two. Once i reached Himni, i found one shop and had chowmein and cold drink. There are dhabas and shops there.

I sat there till 6 PM and had my dinner and then i camped in the ground. There are many places to pitch your tent and i pitched my tent in Volleyball ground.

That was the end of the day and this section. In the next section, i will share about the route from Himni to Wan.
